How to convert PDF to JPG
- Press Choose PDF (or drop the file). The page count appears in the list.
- Choose a resolution: 72, 150 or 300 DPI. Move the JPG quality slider if you need smaller or sharper files.
- Optional: type page numbers such as
1-3, 5, 8-to convert only those pages. - Press Convert to JPG. One page gives
name-page-1.jpg. More pages give a ZIP, and every page also has its own link.
DPI, pixels and file size
A PDF page has no pixels of its own: it is measured in points, 72 to the inch. Turning it into a JPG means choosing how many pixels to draw. The result grows with the square of the DPI, so doubling the DPI makes an image roughly four times larger in pixels:
| DPI | A4 page (595 × 842 pt) | US Letter (612 × 792 pt) | Use for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 72 | 595 × 842 px | 612 × 792 px | Thumbnails, quick previews |
| 150 | 1,240 × 1,754 px | 1,275 × 1,650 px | Screens, email, web (default) |
| 300 | 2,480 × 3,508 px | 2,550 × 3,300 px | Printing, small text |
File size depends on the page too: a mostly white text page compresses to a few hundred KB at 150 DPI, while a full-colour photo page can be several MB.
JPG quality: what the slider does
JPG is a lossy format, and quality sets how much detail it discards. At 90% (the default) the loss is hard to see on photos and normal text. Below about 70%, thin text starts to show fuzz around the letters. Pages are drawn on a white background before saving, because JPG can't store transparency, so a PDF with a transparent page background won't come out black. Text-heavy pages, diagrams and screenshots often look cleaner as PNG, which has no quality setting because it is lossless.
Big pages and phones
Browsers cap the size of the canvas used to draw a page. iOS Safari stops at about 16.7 million pixels, which a large-format drawing or poster at 300 DPI would exceed. To avoid a blank or failed image, the tool lowers the resolution for such a page until it fits (under 16 million pixels, and no side over 8,192 px) and shows the DPI it used. If your pages are normal letter or A4 size you will never hit this.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a PDF to JPG?
Press Choose PDF and select your file. Pick a resolution (150 DPI is a good default), a JPG quality, and optionally which pages, then press Convert to JPG. A one-page result downloads as a single image. Several pages download as a ZIP, and each page also gets its own download link.
Is PDF to JPEG the same as PDF to JPG?
Yes. JPG and JPEG are two spellings of the same image format, and the files this tool makes have the .jpg extension and open anywhere.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The PDF is opened and drawn by your own browser (using pdf.js, the same engine Firefox uses to view PDFs), and the images are made on your device. Your document never goes to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Which resolution should I choose, 72, 150 or 300 DPI?
DPI means dots per inch, and a standard PDF page is 72 points per inch. At 72 DPI an A4 page is 595 by 842 pixels, good for a thumbnail or quick preview. At 150 DPI it is 1,240 by 1,754 pixels, clear on screen and fine for email and web. At 300 DPI it is 2,480 by 3,508 pixels, suitable for printing, with a much bigger file.
What JPG quality should I use?
The default of 90 percent looks the same as the page to most eyes and keeps files moderate. Go down to 70 percent for smaller files and slightly softer text, or up to 100 percent for the best detail and the biggest file. For pages that are mostly text or line art, PNG may look sharper than JPG.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Type pages into the Pages box, for example 1-3, 5, 8- (8- means page 8 to the last page). Leave it blank for every page. A page that does not exist shows an error and highlights the box.
Why does a large PDF page come out at a lower DPI than I chose?
Browsers limit how big an image can be, particularly on iPhone, where a canvas stops at around 16.7 million pixels. A poster-sized page at 300 DPI would be larger than that, so the tool lowers the resolution for that page just enough to fit, and tells you the DPI it used.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes. Choose PDF opens the Files app or downloads on a phone. Long PDFs at 300 DPI use a lot of memory, so on a phone start with 150 DPI, or convert a few pages at a time with the Pages box.
What about password-protected PDFs?
A PDF that needs a password to open can't be converted here, and the tool tells you its name in the message. Remove the password in the app that created the file, or print it to a new PDF, and try again.
Is it free, and is there a page limit?
It is free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on pages from us. The only limit is your device's memory. If a very long PDF stops working, convert it in sections using the Pages box.
