How to convert PNG to PDF
- Press Choose files and pick one or more PNGs. A batch of screenshots from your camera roll works too.
- Check the order. Use Up and Down to move a page, or the cross to remove one.
- Leave Page size on Fit to image for exact screenshots, or choose A4 or Letter for print.
- Press Create PDF and download. A single file gives
name.pdf; several giveimages.pdf.
Why PNG suits screenshots and graphics
PNG compresses without throwing detail away, which is why sharp text, UI elements, charts and logos look clean in it, where JPG would add faint halos around edges. Putting those PNGs into a PDF keeps that quality. The images are stored as lossless pixel data in the PDF, so zooming in on a PDF page shows the same pixels you saw in the screenshot.
The trade-off is size. A full-screen PNG of a web page can be 500 KB to several MB, while the same view as JPG may be a fraction of that. If your PDF will be emailed and the images are photographs, the JPG to PDF converter gives lighter files.
What happens to transparency
Many PNGs have an alpha channel: some pixels are fully or partly see-through. Viewers don't agree on what a transparent PDF image should sit on. Some show white, some show a grey checkerboard, and a printer prints white paper. To make the result predictable, this tool paints a white rectangle behind each PNG, then places the image on top. Partly transparent edges (such as a soft drop shadow) blend into white smoothly, so a logo with a shadow looks the way it does on a white web page.
Because the alpha data is kept, nothing is flattened or lost inside the file. It is only the page behind it that is white.
Page sizes for PNG pages
| Setting | Page | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Fit to image | Same as the PNG, at 96 DPI | Screenshots, long web captures, anything viewed on screen |
| A4 | 595 × 842 pt | Printing outside the US, forms asking for A4 |
| US Letter | 612 × 792 pt | Printing in the US and Canada |
On A4 and Letter an image bigger than the page is scaled down to fit inside the margin you chose. An image smaller than the page stays at its natural size and is centred, instead of being stretched and blurred.
Tips for screenshots
- Long pages. A very tall screenshot (a full web page capture) works best with Fit to image, which makes one tall page instead of squeezing it onto A4.
- Several screenshots in one PDF. Add them all and order them. Rename the file after downloading if you want something more specific than
images.pdf. - Sensitive content. Screenshots often contain private information. Here nothing is sent anywhere, and the files exist only in your browser until you close the tab.
- Going the other way. To get PNG images back out of a PDF, use PDF to PNG.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert PNG to PDF?
Choose your PNG files (or drop them on the box), arrange them with the Up and Down buttons, pick a page size, and press Create PDF. Each PNG becomes one page and the result downloads as a single PDF. There is nothing to install and no account to make.
Is the conversion lossless?
Yes. PNG pixels are stored in the PDF without any lossy step, so text, lines and flat colours in a screenshot stay crisp. The PDF stores them with the same lossless compression PNG itself uses. Choose Fit to image so the page is the size of the picture and nothing is scaled.
What happens to transparent areas in my PNG?
They are shown on white. The PNG keeps its transparency inside the PDF, and the page is painted white behind it, so a logo with a see-through background looks the same in every PDF viewer and on paper. If you need a see-through PDF page, a PDF cannot guarantee that in every viewer, so white is the safe choice.
Is it free, and are my PNG files uploaded?
It is free and needs no sign-up. Nothing is uploaded: your screenshots are read and turned into a PDF by your own browser, so they never reach a server. That matters for screenshots of banking pages, chats or documents.
Can I combine several PNG screenshots into one PDF?
Yes. Add as many PNGs as you want, set the order, and you get one PDF with a page per image. If you later need to join that PDF with other documents, use the Merge PDF tool.
Why is my PDF bigger than my PNG files?
A PNG of a photo is already large, and the PDF keeps those pixels, so the total is similar to the sum of your files. If size matters more than perfect pixels, the JPG to PDF page is smaller for photos, because JPG files are much lighter than PNG for photographs.
Which page size should I choose for screenshots?
Fit to image keeps a screenshot exactly as it looks, one page per screenshot. A4 (595 by 842 points) or US Letter (612 by 792 points) fits it on a standard sheet with optional margins, scaled down if needed but never enlarged, so small screenshots stay sharp instead of blurry.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, on iPhone and Android. Choose files opens your photo library or Files app. Screenshots are PNG on iPhone and usually PNG on Android, so they work directly. Use the Up and Down buttons to set the order on a touch screen.
Is there a size or page limit?
We don't set one. The limit is your device's memory, because each PNG is decoded while the PDF is built. Dozens of screenshots are fine on a recent phone. For a huge batch, make two or three PDFs and join them with Merge PDF.
Can I use other image types here too?
Yes. JPG, WebP, GIF and BMP files are accepted and can be mixed with PNGs. HEIC photos from iPhone are not supported because browsers cannot read them; set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible to save JPG instead.
